Best Short Form Video Advice Ever! [Episode 36]

Digital Marketing Creators Podcast Episode 36

We discuss short form videos in Episode 36 which is a great way to engage with your audience and make them feel like they are actually in the moment. The best advice for making a good short form video is to keep it simple, have fun, and be yourself. The best short form videos are usually under 60 seconds long, but that does not mean you can’t put more content into them. You just need to think about what your audience wants from you and how much time they want to spend on your video.  The message should be presented in such a way that it would be understandable by anyone who watches the video, even if they don’t speak the same language as you do.  TAKE A LISTEN NOW!

Our attention spans are very short. And that's why short form video works, as I'm sure a lot of you know. But there's a lot of different things floating out there in terms of what you should do or shouldn't do, and all those different things. But there's a few things that come to mind. And a few things that I've personally been told by, you know, a few of the top content creators that's on platforms like Tiktok, YouTube shorts, Instagram radios.

And one of the biggest things, one of the biggest pieces of advice that I've heard is don't upload videos of other platforms with watermarks. And what that means is when tick tock first came out, especially around the time the pandemic was, at its peak, you know, everybody was at home, you know, watching Netflix and on Tik Tok and, you know, learning different things and getting entertained and all those things, what people would do, when they're Tik Tok platforms would blow up, or when they they have these popular viral videos, what they would do is they would download those videos and upload them to places like Instagram, from that, at those particular times, their Instagram platforms grew.

It's a different place right now, you know, these different social media platforms, they they're aware now of these interest base and recommendation based platforms like Tiktok, and so on and so forth. And they don't want to see those emblems on their platforms. That's like, it's really like common sense. But you'd be surprised by how many people that still do that. They'll make tic tock videos, they'll download the Tiktok video and posted right on to YouTube and posted right on their Instagram reels and even posted in Snapchat and places like that what they're finding out is the algorithm they're rejecting these videos, and what I mean by reject and is they're not expanding the reach on those videos. So you're not people are not going to see those videos. So the your reach is not expanded. So your reach is shrinking.

When those platforms see anything other than a native video, anything other than, you know, a video without a watermark. They're not pushing those videos out to their users like they were during the pandemic, when they had watermarks on our Tiktok watermarks you know even now if you download it YouTube short, what YouTube has now YouTube has watermarks on their videos. You can't do that you have to upload the native videos meaning the regular videos that's like already in your phone. You don't have to download anything like the video you upload to tick tock now take this with a grain of salt just for the purpose of this podcast. That tick tock video you can upload that same tick tock video native the regular video you upload to tick tock tick same video uploaded to YouTube take the same video uploaded to IG. The flip side to that is your tick tock video even if they're on the same topic. You really shouldn't be doing it The way that I said it, and here's why the audience's are different on all of those platforms. Even the user is different on all those, even if it's the same user, because they expect certain and different things on those platforms. It doesn't mean just because that video blew up on Tik Tok. That video is gonna blow up on YouTube that the video is gonna blow up on Instagram. Because the algorithms are different and the users are different.

Quick break in the episode I want to talk about a resource page that I put together with a lot of helpful things on or something much different than the show notes. So says things such as our ebooks and audio books, a whole bunch of other resources with affiliate links and things like that. So make sure you check that out at DigitalMarketingCreators.com/resources, digitalmarketingcreators.com/resources. Check it out, back to the show.

That users are different, but never upload, download your Tik Tok video that you just upload it and then upload it on YouTube and so on and so forth. Don't Don't do that. What I mean by the previous example, I hope I'm not confusing anybody. The thing that I'm saying is like, there may be a video that I upload on Tik Tok, that says at the end, I might say follow for more follow for more blogging content. I will say the same thing on YouTube. Even when I'm making my videos always make like my last part for Tik Tok. Always make my last part one for tick tock want for you to, I would say some on my Youtube, LIKE, SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE blogging content, or subscribe for more blog and videos,

I will say something, you know to that effect, it'll still be different, it won't, it'll be the same topic. But it won't be the exact same videos, maybe the body is the same the body of the you know, the different frames, the body of the topic is the same. But the last part wouldn't be the same. If you understand what I'm saying, I hope I didn't confuse anyone with that. That's one of the best advices on short form. Content that I've gotten is don't upload videos with other platform watermarks, that's really important. No thing. And I just actually I just I just spoke about really the second thing that I had, right here, which is you know, don't upload the same native videos, every time you have to, you have to switch that, that content up. Like I said, if it's the same topic, the way I make my videos is always have a hook that always have the body and always have the ending part of the video. And even if it's the same topic, maybe my beginning is the same.

The beginning meaning maybe the hook is the same. Maybe the three parts, which is the body always have three different frames that I call the body, maybe those are the same, but the last part is always going to be different. Or you can also do it to where the front are the hook isn't the same as you're going to upload on all platforms. Maybe the hook is something that special to YouTube, maybe the hook and some special to tick tock you have to that's why you have to test you have to do you have to test these tests, all these videos, do some, some A B testing and look at your analytics. That's why analytics is so important. I spoke about that in previous episode, you have to look at your analytics. I don't care if it's on tick tock, I don't care if it's on YouTube shorts. If you're doing Instagram reels. I don't care if it's there, you have to look at your analytics because it's going to determine a lot one video is not going to perform on all the platforms. It's not it's just not because like I said, the user uses a different it's just not going to perform. It uses a different the platforms is different there. The expectations of those platforms are different even though it might be the same user as crazy as that sound. And a lot of people can't comprehend that but it's truth. So keep those two things in mind. Don't upload videos of other platform watermarks and don't upload the same native videos.
